City water or a well, Kalamazoo water is groundwater from the same limestone-and-dolomite aquifer, and it’s hard: the city’s own figure is about 20 grains per gallon, twice the level considered very hard. Outside the city, wells add iron, sulfur and sometimes tannins. We test it free, at your house, and install what it actually needs.

Glaciers ground up limestone and dolomite and left it across this part of Michigan. Slightly acidic rainwater dissolves it on the way down to the aquifer, and calcium and magnesium come up with every gallon. That’s hardness. Iron and manganese ride along in many wells; private wells also skip the iron removal the city runs at two of its stations.
Metered Charger Matrix softeners on the Clack WS1 valve, 24,000 to 64,000 grains, sized to the house.
The Iron Breaker: ozone oxidation and filtration in one tank, no chemicals, up to 6 ppm of iron.
Under-sink drinking water, NSF/ANSI 58 certified, 98% TDS rejection, proven against PFAS.
Anion exchange for yellow, tea-colored well water, with pH correction only when it’s needed.
Whole-home nitrate-selective exchange on the same valve and salt as a softener, or reverse osmosis at the tap.
Based in Portage, so most of Kalamazoo County is a short drive.
Brian is a very professional honest person. He didn’t try to oversell us anything. When he did the install he went the extra mile.
Hired Clear and Simple Water service after speaking with 5 different companies in the area. Brian discussed options and provided a plan to fix my water. Quick, easy install.
Both, and the townships around them: Oshtemo, Texas Township, Richland, Galesburg, Augusta, Scotts and Climax are all regular stops. We’re based in Portage, so Kalamazoo is a short drive.
The City of Kalamazoo’s own figure is about 20 grains per gallon, roughly twice the level the USGS calls very hard. The free test gives you your exact number at your tap.
Same aquifer, but private wells skip the city’s treatment, so iron, sulfur odor and sometimes tannins come along for the ride. The test sorts out which, and how much.
Brian, the owner. The person who tests your water and quotes the job is the person who installs it and answers the phone afterward.
We test hardness, iron, pH and TDS at your house and tell you what, if anything, your water needs.
